At 2,890 meters above sea level, Sueños Natura Bird Sanctuary-Costa Rica offers a highland setting for birdwatching and photography, with viewing areas, hides, a hummingbird garden and forest trails.
Founded on November 22, 2023 by wildlife photographer and birding expert Freddy Madrigal, Sueños Natura draws on more than 38 years of guiding experience in Costa Rica and internationally. Take time to work with the available light, observe behavior and enjoy expert local knowledge.
Hummingbirds & other gems
Possible highlights include Resplendent Quetzal, Wrenthrush, Spotted Wood-Quail, Collared Redstart, Flame-throated Warbler, Black-cheeked Warbler, Golden-browed Chlorophonia and Buff-fronted Quail-Dove. The hummingbird garden offers opportunities to enjoy Fiery-throated Hummingbird, White-throated Mountain-gem, Talamanca Hummingbird and Volcano Hummingbird, alongside other highland specialties.
Hospitality with a personal touch
Cozy rooms, attentive hospitality and carefully prepared food make a stay at Sueños Natura Bird Sanctuary-Costa Rica part of the journey. General Manager and Co-owner Verónica Espinosa brings gastronomy studies in Switzerland and hotel management experience to the lodge’s service and menu.
She also plays a key role in expedition logistics and planning for Freddy Madrigal Photography Expeditions.

Each spacious 22 m² tent has a private bathroom, heating, hot water in the shower and washbasin, tiled flooring, Wi-Fi and electricity. Choose a queen bed or twin beds, with a desk, wardrobe and thoughtful essentials for a comfortable stay. The hummingbird garden is just outside.
Our 28 m² rooms in the main building each offer a queen bed, private bathroom, heating and Wi-Fi. One features a balcony; the other offers views of the mountains and night sky. An upstairs lounge, small bar and balcony provide space to relax.

Explore our forest trails, photography hides and hummingbird garden. A local guide can introduce you to the property and its birding and photography areas. For a more focused experience, book a private guided visit.
